Paramount has dated ‘Crawl 2’ for July 16, 2027, with Alexandre Aja directing Mason Gooding and Emily Rudd in a new survival story.
Crawl 2 has secured a prime summer release date, with Paramount scheduling the alligator thriller for July 16, 2027. The sequel reunites the franchise with director Alexandre Aja while shifting the story to a new pair of leads played by Mason Gooding and Emily Rudd.
A new survival story enters a crowded July
Deadline reports that the film will place Gooding and Rudd in a fresh survival story involving the franchise’s reptilian threat. Paramount had already reserved the mid-July date, positioning the sequel against Sony’s Fake Skating and one week after Warner Bros. and DC’s planned Man of Tomorrow.
The casting makes clear that Crawl 2 is not simply repeating the original film’s father-daughter setup. The first Crawl, released in 2019, followed a young swimmer and her injured father as a hurricane trapped them in a flooded Florida home with alligators. The sequel keeps the core survival-horror concept while introducing different characters and a new emergency.
The original creative team remains involved
Aja is returning to direct, while Craig Flores, Sam Raimi and Aja are producing. Gregory Levasseur, Kevan Van Thompson and Zainab Azizi are listed as executive producers. That continuity should help preserve the first movie’s lean combination of creature feature, disaster film and family survival drama.
The 2019 movie became a durable genre title after earning close to $92 million worldwide, according to the newly announced sequel details. Its contained premise and practical sense of escalating danger helped it stand apart from larger franchise spectacles, giving Paramount a recognizable horror property that can expand without requiring the original cast.
The studio’s schedule update also moved Heart Eyes 2 forward one week, from February 11 to February 4, 2028. That change separates the slasher sequel from a Disney event film while placing it opposite Universal’s planned Murder, She Wrote.
For Crawl 2, the most important signal is the firm date. With a director, lead actors and key producers attached, the follow-up now has a clear place on the 2027 theatrical calendar. Plot specifics beyond the new survival setup have not yet been announced.
