Fede Álvarez says a third Don’t Breathe film has a script, with Jane Levy and Stephen Lang expected to return to the horror franchise.

A third Don’t Breathe movie is moving forward, with Jane Levy and Stephen Lang expected to return to the horror franchise. Filmmaker Fede Álvarez revealed that a screenplay exists during a Beyond Fest event in Santa Monica, giving fans the clearest confirmation yet that the series will continue.

The original leads are set to reunite

Álvarez shared the update after a 10th-anniversary screening of the first film, where he appeared alongside Levy, Lang and Dylan Minnette. He told the audience that Levy and Lang would be back for the third installment. Levy played Rocky, a young burglar trapped inside a deadly home invasion, while Lang portrayed Norman Nordstrom, the blind homeowner at the center of both previous films.

The reunion is significant because Levy did not appear in the 2021 sequel, which shifted its focus to Lang’s character. Bringing both performers into the same chapter creates a direct bridge to the original movie, although no story details have been announced. Minnette’s participation was not confirmed.

Important pieces of the project also remain unsettled publicly. Álvarez confirmed his involvement with the script, but he did not say whether he would direct. There is no announced production timetable, release date or complete cast, and Sony had not issued a detailed statement immediately after the festival reveal.

A franchise returning to its strongest pairing

The first Don’t Breathe, released in 2016, turned a seemingly simple robbery into a tense survival story and became a sizable theatrical success. Álvarez directed that film and co-wrote it with Rodo Sayagues. Sayagues later directed the sequel while Álvarez remained involved as a writer and producer.

The new project gives the franchise an opportunity to reconnect with the conflict that made the original stand out. Levy’s return could restore Rocky as an active counterweight to Nordstrom rather than treating his story in isolation. Until the studio confirms the creative team and schedule, however, the announcement is best understood as a screenplay-and-cast commitment—not a finished production with a release plan.
