Sony is preparing a theatrical return for Spider-Man: Brand New Day, with extra footage reportedly including Rosario Dawson’s Claire Temple.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is heading back to theaters with additional footage, giving Sony another opportunity to extend the blockbuster’s already exceptional run. A release date has not been announced, and the studio had not publicly detailed the new material when the plan was reported Monday.
What the new cut may include
Variety confirmed that a theatrical rerelease is being prepared, while Deadline reported that the added scenes are expected to include Rosario Dawson as Claire Temple. Dawson’s Marvel character, a nurse known for helping injured vigilantes, previously appeared across the connected Netflix-era series including Daredevil, Jessica Jones and Luke Cage.
Deadline said Dawson filmed a scene for Brand New Day that did not make the original cut. The outlet also reported that more surprises are planned, although Sony did not respond to its request for comment. That distinction matters: the rerelease itself is corroborated, but the final scene lineup remains unofficial until the studio announces it.
A blockbuster chasing another milestone
The movie is still playing internationally after opening July 31. Deadline placed its worldwide total at about $2.495 billion through Sunday, including roughly $950.7 million from North America. Those figures have made it Sony’s biggest global release and the top-grossing film ever at the domestic box office.
The timing also follows a strong rerelease weekend for Avengers: Endgame Encore, which used bonus footage to support interest in the next Marvel event film. A fresh Spider-Man cut could similarly turn unseen material into a theatrical draw while helping Brand New Day move closer to the $1 billion domestic threshold.
Tom Holland stars again as Peter Parker, with Zendaya, Sadie Sink, Jon Bernthal, Jacob Batalon, Mark Ruffalo, Tramell Tillman and Florence Pugh among the ensemble. Destin Daniel Cretton directed from a screenplay by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers.
For now, the most important details remain open: when the new version will arrive, how long it will be and which scenes will survive into the final cut. Until Sony sets those terms, the promise of Claire Temple’s return is the headline attraction rather than a confirmed studio guarantee.
