Paramount+ acquired U.S. rights to three British A24 series, including The Ministry of Time, Major Players and It Gets Worse.
Paramount+ is expanding its U.S. television slate with three British series from A24, giving the streamer a comedy, a coming-of-age drama and a time-travel adaptation in one acquisition package.
The deal covers It Gets Worse, Major Players and The Ministry of Time in the United States and selected additional territories. Variety, Deadline and TheWrap each reported the agreement, with It Gets Worse expected to arrive first as a Showtime original on Paramount+ in early November.
Three shows with distinct audiences
Created by and starring comedian Leo Reich, It Gets Worse follows three university friends trying to navigate disappointing jobs, stalled romantic lives and adulthood in London. Emily Fairn, Olive Gray and Sean Delaney are among the main cast, while Andrew Scott, Lena Dunham and Amelia Dimoldenberg are set for guest appearances.
Major Players comes from writers Molly Manning Walker and Yasmin Joseph. Inspired in part by Manning Walker’s school experiences, the series centers on two girls approaching adulthood who decide to start a women’s soccer team. That premise gives the show a sports framework, but the emphasis is on friendship and the disorderly reality of growing up.
The most overtly genre-driven title is The Ministry of Time. Alice Birch adapted Kaliane Bradley’s novel into a six-part series about a government department that brings people from history into the present. Aoife Hinds plays civil servant Sophy, whose assignment involves helping an officer rescued from an 1845 Arctic expedition adjust to modern life. Billy Howle, Hong Chau and Adeel Akhtar are also in the ensemble.
A broader bet on British originals
For Paramount+, the package adds recognizable creative names without forcing all three projects into the same tone. It also gives A24’s British productions a single streaming destination in the U.S., while the shows retain their connections to original commissioners including Channel 4 and the BBC.
Only It Gets Worse has a specific U.S. release window so far. Dates for Major Players and The Ministry of Time remain to be announced, making the acquisition the start of a rollout rather than a complete scheduling reveal.
