Domino Kirke-Badgley says Penn Badgley set his own onscreen intimacy limits for mental health, rejecting years of online blame.

Domino Kirke-Badgley is pushing back on a persistent claim about her husband Penn Badgley’s decision to limit intimate scenes. In a new social-media video, she said the choice was his, not a rule she imposed, and linked it to his mental health and the boundaries he wanted after growing up in the entertainment industry.

Kirke-Badgley rejects years of online blame

Kirke-Badgley said she still receives messages accusing her of stopping the You star from filming sex scenes. She described herself as proud of him for setting a boundary and called the decision a matter of “relational hygiene.” Her message was direct: fans should stop assigning the choice to her when Badgley made it for himself.

The clarification revisits a debate that began in 2023, when Badgley discussed asking You showrunner Sera Gamble to reduce intimate scenes. At the time, he spoke about fidelity and his discomfort with that part of the job. The comments quickly became an online argument about acting, marriage and whether performers can set limits without those limits being treated as a judgment on their colleagues.

Badgley previously described a workplace boundary

In a 2023 interview with British GQ, Badgley said the reaction had blown his remarks out of proportion. He explained that his concern was less about the finished scenes than the culture surrounding their production and Hollywood’s history of exploitation. He also acknowledged that asking for fewer such scenes could narrow the projects available to him.

The actor did not claim that every intimate scene would disappear. Later work on You still included moments he considered necessary to the story, according to subsequent interviews. That distinction matters: his stated preference was to minimize them and make sure they served a clear purpose, rather than issue a universal ban.

Kirke-Badgley’s response shifts the focus back to personal agency. The couple married in 2017, but her latest comments make clear that she does not want their relationship used to explain away a professional decision her husband publicly discussed in his own words.
