Troye Sivan says the women in his life inspired She’s the Best, an album about safety, friendship, nightlife and creative connection.

Troye Sivan is revealing the emotional idea at the center of his fourth studio album, She’s the Best. Speaking with Zane Lowe for Apple Music, the pop singer said the women around him have repeatedly provided the safety, support and creative energy that shaped both his life and the new record.

A lifelong source of comfort becomes an album theme

Sivan traced that feeling from childhood friendships to major collaborations. He recalled enjoying the ritual of getting ready for parties with female friends more than the parties themselves, where he sometimes encountered homophobia. The contrast helped him recognize a pattern: the spaces created with women often felt more welcoming than the rooms they were preparing to enter.

That perspective also runs through a career filled with prominent female collaborators. Sivan pointed to his work with Ariana Grande, Lily-Rose Depp, Charli xcx and Nicole Kidman as examples of the creative world where he feels most at ease. Rather than presenting the album title as a reference to one person, he described it as a broader tribute to a recurring form of friendship and protection.

‘Party’ sets the record’s visual tone

The album arrives Oct. 9 and is preceded by “Party,” an electro-dance single that samples Madonna’s 2000 hit “Music.” Its Gordon von Steiner-directed video places Sivan in a medieval castle, mixing sword fights, choreography and celebratory excess around the idea that queer communities have always found places to gather.

Ian McKellen narrates the video’s opening. Sivan previously worked with the actor in a Perth production of Waiting for Godot when he was 14. He has described the reunion as part of the clip’s interest in queer lineage, with one generation creating space for another.

A familiar circle with new ambitions

“Party” follows the album’s title track and credits a writing team that includes Sivan, Leland and his brother Tyde Levi. The album’s announced contributors and appearances include Charli xcx, McKellen and Kidman, extending the collaborative relationships behind its central theme.

For Sivan, the project connects nightlife to something more intimate: the people who make celebration feel safe before the music even starts.
