Pat Sajak made a rare public appearance to honor Air Supply as the duo received the 2,859th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Pat Sajak made a rare public appearance in Hollywood to help celebrate Air Supply’s new star on the Walk of Fame. The former Wheel of Fortune host joined producer David Foster as a guest speaker at the October 8 ceremony honoring Graham Russell and Russell Hitchcock.
The event marked the duo’s 2,859th Walk of Fame star and recognized Air Supply in the recording category. Sajak’s appearance drew added attention because he has largely stayed out of the public spotlight since ending his regular run on the game show in June 2024.
Sajak connected two unusually long careers
During his remarks, Sajak compared the challenge of sustaining Air Supply’s career for more than five decades with his own four-decade tenure on television. He praised Russell and Hitchcock for continuing to perform at a high level instead of relying only on nostalgia.
The 79-year-old also brought his familiar dry humor to the podium, joking about a planned Air Supply tattoo before shifting back to a warm tribute. He identified the musicians as longtime friends of both him and his wife, Lesly Brown, and said it had been a privilege to share many moments with them.
That personal connection gave the speech a different tone from a standard celebrity introduction. Sajak was not simply presenting an award; he was speaking about artists whose endurance mirrored an important part of his own professional identity.
Air Supply received its star after 50 years
The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce held the ceremony at 6126 Hollywood Boulevard, with radio personality Lisa Foxx serving as emcee. The organization credited Air Supply with a catalog that has reached multiple generations of listeners.
Russell and Hitchcock formed their partnership in Australia in 1975 and became known internationally for romantic pop hits including “Lost in Love,” “All Out of Love” and “Making Love Out of Nothing at All.” Their Walk of Fame recognition arrived more than half a century after that collaboration began.
For Sajak, the ceremony offered a brief return to a public stage without signaling a return to daily television. His appearance instead centered on friendship, longevity and a pair of performers who, like him, built their careers by becoming familiar figures across generations.
