Kylie Minogue, Jonathan Groff and Catherine Tate have joined Cynthia Erivo in the voice cast of the animated musical ‘Bad Fairies.’

The voice cast of Bad Fairies is getting three high-profile additions: Kylie Minogue, Jonathan Groff and Catherine Tate have joined the animated musical comedy led by Cynthia Erivo.

Erivo revealed the casting during her Let Me Sing to You concert at the Hollywood Bowl on Oct. 15. The announcement followed an orchestral performance built around “Hard to Believe,” a song connected to her character in the film.

Three new voices enter the magical world

Minogue will play Clowder the Cat Witch, while Groff will voice Robin Goodfellow and Tate will take on the Fairy Gothmother. Erivo leads the ensemble as Jayne Staplegun, a rule-breaking fairy at the center of a story set in contemporary London.

The cast already includes Ncuti Gatwa as Butterwort, Serrana Su-Ling Bliss as Fei Chang, James Acaster as Stickers and Dee Bradley Baker as Groundbeef. Production is underway in London, with Warner Bros. Pictures Animation and Locksmith Animation behind the project and DNEG Animation serving as the digital production partner.

Megan Nicole Dong directs the film with Olivier Staphylas as co-director. Deborah Frances-White wrote the original screenplay, and Six creators Toby Marlow and Lucy Moss are contributing original songs. Isabella “Machine” Summers, known for her work with Florence and the Machine, is composing the score and also contributing to the music.

A concert-stage casting reveal

The Hollywood Bowl presentation gave the announcement a musical setting that matched the project. Minogue attended the performance, while Groff and Tate were introduced as part of the reveal. The newly announced actors bring experience spanning pop, Broadway, television and comedy to a movie built around an unruly group of fairies.

Industry reports agree that the film is planned for a theatrical release in May 2027, although the exact date differs across coverage. That leaves the production with time to turn its expanding voice ensemble and original songbook into a new animated franchise contender.
