Netflix’s live-action Scooby-Doo: Origins has wrapped production, with a young Mystery Inc. cast and a global 2027 release planned.

Scooby-Doo: Origins has completed production, putting Netflix’s live-action reinvention of Mystery Inc. on course for a global debut in 2027. The streamer announced the milestone Sunday, September 13, without narrowing the release to a specific month or day.

The series goes back to the gang’s early days rather than extending one of their familiar screen adventures. Its official premise finds longtime friends Shaggy and Daphne spending their final summer at camp, where they become entangled in a mystery involving a lost Great Dane puppy that may have witnessed a supernatural murder.

A younger Mystery Inc. takes shape

Mckenna Grace plays Daphne Blake, Tanner Hagen is Shaggy Rogers, Abby Ryder Fortson portrays Velma Dinkley and Maxwell Jenkins takes the role of Fred Jones. The wider cast includes Paul Walter Hauser, Sara Gilbert, Bruce McGill, André Benjamin and Cathy Moriarty.

The project also introduces an unusual first for the franchise: Scooby is being portrayed by a real Great Dane. That choice gives the new series a practical anchor even as its story leans into haunted clues, adolescent secrets and the supernatural atmosphere associated with the property.

Josh Appelbaum and Scott Rosenberg are the writers, showrunners and executive producers. André Nemec and Jeff Pinkner also executive produce, alongside Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter and Leigh London Redman. The first season was filmed in Atlanta.

Netflix keeps the launch details under wraps

Production’s completion is a concrete step, but several important details remain unannounced. Netflix has not disclosed an episode count, a trailer date or a precise premiere schedule. The 2027 window is therefore the clearest timing available for now.

The new approach places the friendship among Shaggy, Daphne, Velma and Fred at the center of an origin story before they are fully established as the mystery-solving team audiences know. By combining a younger ensemble with a real dog and a season-long supernatural case, Scooby-Doo: Origins is aiming for a fresh entry point without discarding the franchise’s core formula.
