Macaulay Culkin, Dan Levy and Annie Murphy reunited at the Emmys to remember Catherine O’Hara’s warmth, humor and creative courage.
Catherine O’Hara’s best-known onscreen children came together at the 2026 Emmy Awards to celebrate the warmth and comic imagination she brought to generations of viewers. Macaulay Culkin, Dan Levy and Annie Murphy led the tribute during Monday’s ceremony in Los Angeles.
Culkin played O’Hara’s son Kevin McCallister in the first two Home Alone films, while Levy and Murphy portrayed David and Alexis Rose opposite her Moira Rose in Schitt’s Creek. Their appearance connected two defining chapters of her career through the actors who knew her as a television or movie mother.
Three costars remember the person behind the roles
Culkin described O’Hara as encouraging, warm and consistently present when he asked for her support. He also turned a famous Home Alone premise into a gentle joke, noting that although his character was forgotten twice, O’Hara herself would always be remembered.
Murphy focused on the joy O’Hara created, recalling how strangers continued to share lines and gestures associated with her performances. Levy remembered the creative lesson of trusting her instincts, from Moira Rose’s elaborate wardrobe to the character’s unusual voice, rewrites and celebrated collection of wigs.
Together, the remarks presented O’Hara not simply as the performer behind memorable characters, but as a collaborator whose choices encouraged other actors and writers to take bigger comic risks. That personal emphasis kept the segment rooted in shared work rather than a conventional career summary.
A career spanning sketch comedy, film and television
O’Hara died in January at age 71. She began as an original cast member of the Canadian sketch series SCTV and won an Emmy for writing on SCTV Network. Decades later, her performance as Moira Rose earned her another Emmy and introduced her precise, eccentric comedy to a new audience.
Her screen work also included Beetlejuice, Best in Show, A Mighty Wind and The Studio. After the three costars spoke, the ceremony continued into its broader In Memoriam segment, accompanied by Noah Kahan’s performance of “Bridge Over Troubled Water.” The tribute placed O’Hara’s legacy where her admirers knew it best: inside an extended creative family.
