Alanis Morissette alleges extortion, fraud and misrepresentation in a new federal lawsuit against her former tour manager.

Alanis Morissette has filed a federal lawsuit against her former tour manager, alleging an attempted extortion scheme connected to a 2025 airport incident in the United Kingdom. The complaint seeks damages and a jury trial while presenting the singer’s account of a dispute that has moved into court.

The lawsuit, filed Tuesday in Los Angeles federal court and reviewed by Rolling Stone and TheWrap, names Keren Urinov, who worked temporarily on Morissette’s European tour. Morissette accuses Urinov of civil extortion, fraud and negligent misrepresentation. Those claims are allegations and have not been decided by a judge or jury.

What the lawsuit alleges

According to the complaint, British border authorities inspected a bag while the tour party was traveling in July 2025. The filing says Urinov told Morissette and others that the bag contained marijuana and xylazine, and that she had told officers the bag and its contents belonged to her.

Morissette alleges that, after the tour, Urinov and her attorney sent letters threatening legal action and a report to British authorities unless the singer accepted a long-term employment arrangement. The complaint says the proposed deal would have given Urinov a 15-year tour-director contract with compensation, raises and bonuses, along with immigration assistance.

The singer’s filing rejects the demand and says she brought the case reluctantly to protect herself from what it characterizes as false drug-trafficking allegations. It requests more than $75,000 in compensatory damages, punitive damages and other relief the court considers appropriate.

The dispute now moves through court

TheWrap reported that an attorney for Urinov did not immediately respond to its request for comment. The outlet also noted that Urinov filed a separate claim against Morissette in London in August. The precise allegations in that proceeding were not detailed in the reports reviewed for this article.

The case puts a private touring dispute into a public legal record, but the filing represents only Morissette’s side at this stage. Any response from Urinov, along with future court orders, will determine how the competing claims are tested.
