CAA Hires Steve Roy for Its Motion Picture Literary Team

Creative Artists Agency has hired Steve Roy as an agent in its Motion Picture Literary department, adding a representative whose client work has focused on writers and directors. Roy will be based in CAA’s Los Angeles office and report to department co-heads Dan Rabinow and Ida Ziniti.

From Buchwald to CAA

Roy arrives from Buchwald, where he began as an assistant in 2020 and was promoted to agent in 2023. That progression gave him experience developing a roster from inside the agency before moving to one of Hollywood’s largest talent representation companies.

His Buchwald client list included filmmakers and screenwriters working across independent and commercial projects. Among them were Juan Pablo González, director of Dos Estaciones; Nicholas Colia, the filmmaker behind Griffin in Summer; Alan Scott Neal, director of Last Straw; and Luke Shanahan, whose credits include Rabbit.

The roster also included Danish filmmaker Kasper Møller Rask, writer John Strauss, whose credits include There’s Something About Mary, and writer-director Scott Rashap. Neither CAA nor the two trade reports specified which clients, if any, will move with Roy, so the hire should not be read as confirmation of new CAA representation for every name associated with his previous post.

CAA continues to build across entertainment

Roy’s appointment follows a series of additions and promotions at CAA. Earlier in 2026, the agency elevated six staff members across its motion picture talent and sports broadcasting divisions, including Casey Fraser, Kevin Goldfinger, Jonathan Granville, Joy Jiu, Katherine McConnell and Chris Meyer.

The company has also announced signings spanning music, television, digital media, food and games. Recent additions cited by Variety include Alicia Keys, showrunner Celeste Parr and her Punctuation Media banner, creator Nara Smith, executive Bozoma Saint John, writer Sophie Fleur and chef Kwame Onwuachi.

CAA’s expansion has moved beyond traditional representation as well. Its recently launched Frame1Games venture is designed to provide capital, mentorship and industry access to independent video game developers through a yearlong accelerator.

For Roy, the immediate mandate is narrower: joining the Los Angeles-based team responsible for representing screenwriters and directors. The move places him under CAA’s motion picture literary leadership after six years of career development at Buchwald.
