Hannah Einbinder addressed her arrest at a U.N. protest, asking the public to focus on the demonstration’s message rather than celebrity headlines.

Hannah Einbinder addressed her arrest at a protest outside the United Nations in New York on Thursday, September 24, urging attention to remain on the political message behind the demonstration rather than on the celebrities who were detained.

The Hacks star shared a statement on Instagram after protesting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s appearance at the U.N. General Assembly. Einbinder argued that images of her arrest should not overshadow the suffering in Gaza and elsewhere in the region. She called on the U.S. government to press for an end to the violence and wrote, “Let us not mistake the spectacle for the story.”

Several public figures joined the demonstration

Einbinder was not the only entertainment figure at the protest. Susan Sarandon, Sarah Sherman, Cynthia Nixon, Elliot Page, Indya Moore, Caleb Hearon and Mary Beth Barone were among the public figures reported at the demonstration. Chelsea Manning and author Glennon Doyle were also identified among those present.

Reports placed the number of people detained at about 100. The demonstration was organized by Jewish Voice for Peace and took place as Netanyahu arrived at the U.N. for meetings and an address to world leaders. Protesters blocked an entrance while calling for an end to Israeli military action in Gaza.

Einbinder redirects attention to her message

In her statement, Einbinder criticized both major U.S. political parties for their support of Netanyahu’s government. Her language was forceful, including allegations of genocide and references to strikes, home demolitions and settler violence. Those claims were presented as Einbinder’s political position, not as findings independently established by the arrest reports.

The response fits Einbinder’s increasingly visible public advocacy alongside her work in entertainment. Yet her latest statement deliberately resisted turning the incident into a celebrity-centered story. By speaking after her release, she used the attention generated by the arrests to return the conversation to the cause the demonstrators said had brought them to the U.N. in the first place.
