ABC will air a special two-part High Potential mystery after Super Bowl LXI, giving Kaitlin Olson’s hit drama a major 2027 showcase.
ABC is giving High Potential one of television’s most valuable launchpads. A special episode of the Kaitlin Olson-led crime drama will air immediately after Super Bowl LXI on Sunday, February 14, 2027, across ABC and Disney+.
A two-night mystery for Morgan Gillory
The post-game installment is being planned as the first half of a two-part story, according to Deadline. Its cliffhanger is expected to carry into the conclusion in the show’s regular Tuesday slot. That structure gives viewers a reason to return after the unusually large audience that typically follows the championship game.
The strategy also echoes ABC’s last Super Bowl broadcast in 2006. That night, the network used Grey’s Anatomy to begin a two-part storyline after the game. Deadline reported that the episode drew 38.1 million viewers, making it a memorable example of how a network can turn sports traffic into momentum for a scripted series.
ABC puts its breakout drama in the spotlight
High Potential follows Morgan Gillory, a single mother whose exceptional ability to spot patterns brings her into police investigations. Olson’s performance has helped the procedural stand out in a crowded broadcast field, while its case-of-the-week format makes the show relatively easy for first-time viewers to enter.
ABC says the series ended the 2025–26 broadcast season as the top show among adults ages 18 to 49 when multiplatform viewing over 35 days was included. Variety reported the network’s figures of a 3.35 rating in that demographic and an average of 16.01 million viewers across ABC, Hulu, Hulu on Disney+ and digital platforms.
Season three is scheduled to begin in early 2027, with regular Tuesday broadcasts and next-day streaming on Hulu. The Super Bowl episode therefore will not function as a premiere, but as a major midseason showcase designed to widen the audience.
ABC is returning to the Super Bowl rotation for the first time in more than two decades. By placing an established hit behind the game instead of launching an unfamiliar title, the network is betting that Morgan’s next mystery can convert a one-night surge into lasting weekly interest.
