Jennifer Meyer Explains Why Tobey Maguire Officiated Her Wedding

Jennifer Meyer says asking her former husband, Tobey Maguire, to officiate her wedding was an unconventional choice that perfectly reflected the family they have built after their separation.

The jewelry designer married Geoffrey Ogunlesi on October 10 at the Four Seasons Resort Lanai in Hawaii. Meyer told Vogue, in comments subsequently reported by multiple entertainment outlets, that she felt no pre-ceremony nerves and described Maguire’s role as deeply meaningful. Their children, Ruby, 19, and Otis, 17, also took part in the celebration, alongside Meyer’s infant daughter with Ogunlesi.

A ceremony shaped by co-parenting

Meyer and Maguire married in 2007, separated in 2016 and filed for divorce in 2020. Their divorce was finalized shortly before the Hawaii ceremony, but the legal end of the marriage did not erase the close relationship they have maintained as parents.

Meyer has spoken before about the work required to reach that point. She has said the former couple prioritized their children, continued celebrating holidays and birthdays together, and developed a wider family dynamic in which Ogunlesi and Maguire are also comfortable with one another.

That history gave Maguire’s appearance at the altar more weight than a surprise celebrity cameo. Rather than simply attending, the actor formally guided Meyer and Ogunlesi through their vows, turning years of co-parenting into a visible part of the new marriage.

A star-filled celebration with a personal center

The guest list reportedly included Leonardo DiCaprio, Courteney Cox, Kate Hudson, Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez Bezos. Still, Meyer’s explanation placed the emphasis on the family members who walked down the aisle and the sense of continuity surrounding the ceremony.

The wedding follows Meyer and Ogunlesi’s 2024 engagement and the birth of their daughter earlier this year. For Meyer, Maguire’s participation was not presented as a stunt or a nostalgic gesture. It was an extension of a family arrangement she has spent years describing publicly: a former couple remaining closely connected while making room for a new chapter.
