Johnny Depp Turns a Las Vegas Photo Call Into a Viral Moment

Johnny Depp gave photographers an unexpected image at a Las Vegas event when he playfully bit into the artificial greenery covering a photo-call backdrop. The actor was attending an after-party at Park MGM connected to his Three Hearts rum brand when the brief, oddball moment was captured on video.

Footage from the event shows Depp holding a drink as he turns toward the faux hedge, pulls a leaf away with his teeth and briefly poses with it in his mouth. He then spits it out, returns for a second bite and raises his glass while several leaves hang between his teeth. Reports from the scene described the sequence as playful rather than accidental.

A light moment during Drink Las Vegas

The appearance was part of Drink Las Vegas, a four-day food and beverage festival scheduled from September 24 through 27 across several MGM Resorts properties. Depp wore a dark waistcoat, wide-brimmed hat, orange-tinted glasses and multiple rings for the Saturday-night gathering.

The setting matters: the plant was decorative and artificial, and there is no indication that Depp swallowed it or that the moment caused any problem. After the photo call, he was also seen talking with guests and clinking glasses at the party. The short clip spread because it transformed a routine promotional backdrop into an intentionally strange celebrity pose.

Depp also has a new film on the way

The Las Vegas appearance arrived during a busy stretch for the 63-year-old actor. A teaser for Day Drinker, directed by Marc Webb, was released during the same week. The thriller pairs Depp with Madelyn Cline and Penélope Cruz and is scheduled to open in theaters on March 26, 2027.

Depp and Cruz previously appeared together in Blow, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides and Murder on the Orient Express. He has also recently worked behind the camera on Modì: Three Days on the Wing of Madness.

For now, the Las Vegas clip is less a career announcement than a compact viral performance: a famous actor, a wall of fake leaves and a few seconds of committed silliness in front of waiting cameras.
