Julianne Moore to Receive Zurich’s Golden Icon Award

Julianne Moore will receive the Golden Icon Award at the 22nd Zurich Film Festival, where the Oscar winner is also set to present her new film, The Debut. The festival’s top career honor recognizes Moore’s range across more than three decades of American and international cinema.

A career honor tied to a new performance

Moore will attend the Swiss festival with Jesse Eisenberg, who directed The Debut. The project marks their second director-actor collaboration after When You Finish Saving the World, and it is Eisenberg’s third feature behind the camera. The new film also stars Paul Giamatti.

In the musical comedy, Moore plays Mona Friedman, a reserved housewife who lands a small role in a community-theater production. What begins as a modest creative opportunity develops into an all-consuming commitment as Mona clashes with the show’s domineering director and becomes determined to defend the importance of her part.

Zurich celebrates Moore’s range

Festival leadership highlighted Moore’s ability to make very different characters feel emotionally immediate. That versatility has defined a career spanning independent films, studio dramas and major awards contenders. Her credits include Boogie Nights, Magnolia, The Big Lebowski, Far From Heaven and May December.

Moore won the Academy Award for best actress for Still Alice, in which she portrayed a linguistics professor confronting early-onset Alzheimer’s disease. She has also earned major recognition at Cannes, Venice and Berlin, giving the Zurich honor the feel of both a lifetime tribute and a celebration of an artist who remains active at the center of contemporary film.

The Golden Icon presentation will give festival audiences an early showcase for The Debut while placing Moore’s latest performance in the context of her wider body of work.
