Kylie Minogue will headline the 2026 AFL Grand Final with a 20-minute pre-game production built for roughly 100,000 fans at the MCG.
Kylie Minogue’s homecoming performance at the 2026 AFL Grand Final is taking shape as an ambitious 20-minute production designed for one of Australia’s largest live audiences. The Melbourne-born pop star will headline the pre-game entertainment at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on September 26.
New details reported by Billboard describe an avant-garde stage, dancers and visual elements developed with Mushroom Group and the AFL. Around 100,000 fans are expected inside the MCG, with a much larger broadcast audience watching the show before the season’s championship match.
Kylie Minogue returns for Australian sport’s biggest stage
The booking marks Minogue’s first performance at an AFL Grand Final. When the league announced her as the headliner, she framed the appearance as a return to her hometown and said she would be both a performer and one of the fans watching the game. AFL chief executive Andrew Dillon called her an Australian icon and said the league had wanted to secure her for some time.
The performance also restores an Australian headliner to the event after several years led by international acts. The most recent editions featured Robbie Williams, KISS, Katy Perry and Snoop Dogg, while the 2021 show assembled a lineup of local performers in Perth.
A festival atmosphere beyond the stadium
The entertainment plan will extend into Yarra Park, where a Footy Festival and a dedicated “Kylie Village” are scheduled to open on September 23. The village will offer official merchandise in the days leading up to the match, broadening the singer’s role from a single pre-game set into part of the week’s fan experience.
Minogue arrives with a catalog spanning nearly four decades, more than 80 million records sold worldwide and nine No. 1 albums in Australia. Her recent run has included the global success of “Padam Padam,” a Grammy-winning chapter around Tension, and her first Australian headline tour since 2019.
The AFL says additional Grand Final entertainment announcements will follow closer to the event. For now, Minogue is positioned as the centerpiece of a production built to match both the scale of the MCG and the significance of a hometown pop figure returning to its biggest annual stage.
