Microsoft Sets October 7 Windows and Surface Event

Microsoft will bring Windows, Surface and its local artificial-intelligence strategy together at a San Francisco event on October 7. The company is positioning the presentation as a conversation about how AI running directly on personal computers could shape the next phase of the PC.

The event is scheduled for 10 a.m. Pacific time, or 1 p.m. Eastern. Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella will appear alongside Windows and Devices chief Pavan Davuluri and Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, giving the program an unusually high-profile lineup for a Windows hardware briefing.

Windows meets Nvidia’s RTX Spark platform

Microsoft says the discussion will cover Windows, Nvidia RTX Spark, Surface and the wider PC ecosystem. That wording points toward computers designed to run increasingly capable AI models locally instead of sending every task to a remote data center.

One likely subject is the Surface Laptop Ultra, which Microsoft introduced in June without announcing a price or release date. The machine is built around Nvidia’s RTX Spark platform. Neither Microsoft nor Nvidia has confirmed that availability details will be revealed on October 7, so the laptop remains an expectation rather than a promised announcement.

Other PC makers have also shown RTX Spark systems, but major questions remain about cost, battery life and the practical software that will justify more powerful on-device AI hardware. The presence of both Nadella and Huang suggests Microsoft wants to explain the platform as more than a routine processor upgrade.

A rare major Windows event

Microsoft has not staged a comparable broad Windows presentation in more than two years. Its May 2024 event introduced Arm-based Copilot Plus PCs and highlighted a renewed partnership with Qualcomm. Before that, the company used a June 2021 livestream to unveil Windows 11.

The October gathering also gives Microsoft room to address the everyday Windows experience. The company has been working through reliability and quality concerns while adding AI features across the operating system. A surprise Windows 12 announcement has not been signaled by Microsoft, and current reporting does not treat one as likely.

For consumers, the most useful answers will be concrete: which devices are coming, when they will ship, how much they will cost and what local AI can do that existing PCs cannot. Those details will determine whether the October event marks a genuine hardware shift or another early look at the industry’s next computing pitch.
