Black Bear has acquired the Rebecca Ferguson, Greta Lee and Carrie Coon romantic comedy Honeymoon / Funeral for domestic release.
Black Bear has acquired the domestic rights to Honeymoon / Funeral, a new romantic comedy led by Rebecca Ferguson, Greta Lee and Carrie Coon. The deal gives the completed production a North American distributor after it was presented through the film market launched alongside the Toronto International Film Festival.
A chance meeting with an emotional twist
The movie centers on two women who meet while flying to London under sharply different circumstances. Ferguson’s character is traveling alone on what was supposed to be her honeymoon after her girlfriend leaves her at the altar. Lee’s character is returning home for her mother’s funeral. Their encounter turns into an unexpected week together, setting up a story that blends romantic comedy with grief, disappointment and fresh connection.
Coon is also part of the central cast, though the first acquisition announcement did not spell out her character. Nahnatchka Khan, whose directing credits include Always Be My Maybe and Totally Killer, directs from a screenplay by Julia Bicknell.
The film is already in post-production
Production wrapped in London in September 2026, and the project is now in post-production. MRC financed the film and supervised production, while FilmNation Entertainment is handling worldwide sales. Khan and Jennifer Carreras produced through their Fierce Baby banner, with Bicknell also serving as a producer.
The acquisition places a star-driven original comedy on Black Bear’s upcoming slate at a moment when theatrical distributors continue to compete for recognizable ensembles and clear audience hooks. Ferguson brings major franchise visibility from the Dune and Mission: Impossible films, while Lee and Coon have built acclaimed careers across independent films, prestige television and studio projects.
A release date and distribution plan were not included in the initial reports. For now, the key development is that Honeymoon / Funeral has secured a domestic home while its post-production work continues.
