Ryan Murphy says he has completed a Glee reboot script with the show’s original co-creators, while a platform and production order remain unconfirmed.

A return to McKinley High is now more than a passing idea. Glee co-creator Ryan Murphy says he has finished a script for a potential reboot, written with fellow original creators Brad Falchuk and Ian Brennan.

Murphy said he has contacted roughly 10 members of the original cast and described their reaction as enthusiastic. That interest does not amount to a formal reunion yet: the actors have not read the script, and the project has not been announced by a network or streaming service.

A script, but no greenlight yet

The distinction matters for fans eager to see the musical comedy return. A completed script gives the idea a concrete shape, but it remains an early development rather than an ordered series. Deadline reports that the project, associated with 20th Television, has not been set up at a platform.

Murphy also indicated that he wants to write more than one episode before asking the cast to assess the concept. His approach suggests the creative team is testing whether a new version can stand on its own instead of relying solely on nostalgia.

Original cast interest is building

The update follows recent comments from Lea Michele, who played Rachel Berry throughout the show’s six seasons. Michele said she would be willing to follow Murphy back to the series, while emphasizing how personally meaningful Glee remains to her.

First broadcast in 2009, the show followed a high school glee club whose performances became the backdrop for stories about ambition, belonging and teenage life. Its original ensemble included Michele, Matthew Morrison, Jane Lynch, Chris Colfer, Dianna Agron, Heather Morris, Cory Monteith and Naya Rivera.

Any reboot would have to address how much time has passed and which characters should anchor a new story. For now, the clearest news is also the most limited: Murphy, Falchuk and Brennan have written a script, several former cast members have expressed interest, and no production order or release plan has been confirmed.
