Saoirse Ronan responds to Jack Lowden’s James Bond rumors, stressing that no casting has been announced and daily life comes first.
Saoirse Ronan is keeping expectations in check as speculation grows around her husband, Jack Lowden, and the next James Bond. Asked about the casting chatter in an Associated Press interview, the Oscar-nominated actor said the subject is not dominating their home life.
Her response was deliberately ordinary: the couple has a dog to walk, dinner to make and existing work to finish. That grounded answer did not confirm Lowden’s involvement, but it offered a clear counterweight to weeks of increasingly confident online claims.
Gary Oldman helped fuel the speculation
The latest wave began after Lowden’s Slow Horses co-star Gary Oldman discussed the Bond search during a Canadian television interview. Oldman said a choice had been made and voiced hope that Lowden had secured the role. Amazon MGM Studios, which controls the franchise, declined to comment, and Oldman later stepped back from the apparent disclosure.
Ronan treated that moment with humor, noting that Oldman appears convinced. She also stressed that Lowden is currently occupied with Slow Horses, the Apple TV spy drama in which he plays River Cartwright alongside Oldman. Until the studio makes an announcement, the casting remains a rumor rather than a settled fact.
The next Bond film does have major creative pieces in place. Denis Villeneuve is set to direct, while Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight is writing the screenplay. No actor has officially been named to replace Daniel Craig, whose final appearance as 007 came in 2021’s No Time to Die.
Both actors already have full schedules
Ronan and Lowden married in 2024 after previously appearing together in the 2018 historical drama Mary Queen of Scots. Their careers have continued on separate high-profile tracks rather than around the Bond campaign.
Ronan is working on Sam Mendes’ four-film Beatles project, playing Linda McCartney opposite Paul Mescal’s Paul McCartney. Lowden remains central to Slow Horses, a role that has strengthened his profile as a potential action-franchise lead.
Ronan has also expressed interest in entering the Bond universe on her own terms, previously saying she would like to play a younger female villain. For now, though, neither half of the couple has an announced role in the franchise. Her comments leave the rumor alive while drawing a firm line between industry speculation and an official casting decision.
