Sony is in talks for a ‘Battlefield’ movie with Michael B. Jordan producing and Christopher McQuarrie set to write and direct.

Sony Pictures has emerged as the leading contender for a new Battlefield movie, with Michael B. Jordan attached to produce and Christopher McQuarrie lined up to write, direct and produce. The studio is in talks for the project’s rights, so the deal remains a negotiation rather than a finished acquisition. The discussions remain at an early stage.

Jordan may also star, although his on-screen involvement has not been finalized. Sony has not commented publicly on the talks, and plot details are still being kept under wraps. The project nevertheless brings together two prominent names: Jordan recently expanded his work behind the camera through Outlier Society, while McQuarrie is closely associated with the modern Mission: Impossible films.

A major game franchise moves toward theaters

Battlefield began with Battlefield 1942 in 2002 and grew into one of Electronic Arts’ signature action franchises. Its games are best known for large multiplayer battles spanning land, air and sea, with settings that have ranged from the world wars to near-future conflicts.

Jordan is producing alongside Outlier Society president Elizabeth Raposo. Other producers attached to the package include Electronic Arts’ Jesse Stern, Roy Lee and Miri Yoon of Vertigo Entertainment, and Carter Swan of Emerald Neon. That mix suggests the adaptation is being built with both franchise oversight and experienced film producers involved from the outset.

The next step is still the deal

The film does not yet have a reported release date, production schedule or confirmed cast. Sony’s talks follow interest from multiple studios and streaming companies, making the bidding process part of a broader Hollywood push for recognizable game properties.

For now, the clearest creative shape comes from McQuarrie’s planned writing and directing role and Jordan’s producing commitment. Whether Jordan ultimately leads the cast will depend on the project’s next round of decisions after the rights negotiations are completed.
