SwayvoTwain Will Play Biggie in the Snoop Dogg Biopic

Universal’s Snoop Dogg biopic has found its Notorious B.I.G. SwayvoTwain, the musician born Michael D’Angelo Archer II, has been cast as the Brooklyn rap icon in Snoop, expanding a lineup built around several defining figures from 1990s hip-hop.

Variety first reported the casting, and Billboard and Rolling Stone subsequently detailed the announcement. SwayvoTwain is the son of late R&B artists D’Angelo and Angie Stone. Although he has released music under his stage name and appeared in a smaller screen project, the Biggie role is being presented as his first major acting assignment.

The casting carries an unusual layer of musical history. Christopher Wallace, known as the Notorious B.I.G., became the leading voice of East Coast rap before his death in 1997. Snoop Dogg emerged from the West Coast scene, yet the two artists maintained mutual respect despite the rivalry that surrounded their record labels and peers. The film now has an actor with his own direct connection to a celebrated musical family stepping into that history.

A growing cast for Universal’s Snoop

Jonathan Daviss will play Snoop Dogg. The announced ensemble also includes Myles Bullock as Dr. Dre, Camron Jones as Tupac Shakur, Tre Hale as Suge Knight, Algee Smith as Warren G, Lauren London as Snoop’s mother Beverly Tate and Laya DeLeon Hayes as his wife, Shante Broadus.

The latest additions extend beyond Biggie. Bentley Green has been cast as rapper RBX, while G Perico will portray Big Reecie Cup, a figure tied to Snoop’s Long Beach roots. Together, those roles suggest that the movie will spend substantial time on the community and collaborators around its central subject rather than treating his rise as a solo story.

Craig Brewer, whose credits include Hustle & Flow, is directing from a screenplay he rewrote from Joe Robert Cole’s original script. Universal has dated Snoop for a U.S. theatrical release on August 6, 2027. Plot specifics remain limited, but the expanding cast gives the project a clearer map of the relationships it intends to dramatize.
