Tate McRae has released ‘Housewife,’ a defiant new single with a lavish video filmed in the south of France and packed with visual jokes.

Tate McRae has returned with “Housewife,” a new single and music video built around a woman who refuses to be contained by a conventional role.

The Canadian pop singer released the track on Oct. 15, ending a nearly yearlong gap between new solo releases. Its glossy video was filmed in the south of France and places McRae in a succession of extravagant settings, including a mansion and a yacht.

‘Housewife’ turns domestic imagery upside down

The concept treats the title less as a promise of domestic life than as a declaration of independence. McRae performs choreography across the lavish locations and pushes a baby carriage filled with cash, using familiar symbols of wealth and homemaking as exaggerated visual jokes.

McRae previewed the idea during a recent appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, describing the song as being about a woman who cannot be contained. She also said fans had missed a prominent clue at her Lollapalooza performance in Chicago, where the word “Housewife” appeared in the set months before the release.

The track’s writing credits include McRae, Julia Michaels, Ryan Tedder, Grant, Aaron Shadrow and El Guincho. Pierre-Ange Carlotti directed the video, which also features Thjimen Oerlemans, Ruben Moreira and Simon Lööf.

A fresh chapter after a chart-topping album

“Housewife” follows McRae’s 2025 album So Close to What, which opened at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. The release keeps her performance-driven pop style at the center while giving the new song a deliberately playful visual identity.

The timing also places McRae back in the spotlight ahead of the 2026 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, where she is scheduled to perform on Oct. 18. For now, the single stands on its own as a compact pop comeback: a high-gloss production that turns its title into a joke about money, control and choosing your own terms.
