Teri Hatcher Will Take Over as Miranda Priestly in London

Teri Hatcher is heading to London’s West End for a new turn in fashion’s most intimidating office. The actor will take over the role of Miranda Priestly in The Devil Wears Prada: The Musical at the Dominion Theatre beginning October 20, 2026.

Her engagement is currently scheduled to run through February 6, 2027. Hatcher succeeds Vanessa Williams, whose final performance as the fictional Runway editor-in-chief is set for September 19. Debbie Kurup, the production’s Miranda alternate, will lead the show between Williams’ departure and October 17.

Teri Hatcher returns to musical theater

The casting gives Hatcher another major stage assignment after a career most closely associated with television. She won a Golden Globe for Desperate Housewives and also starred as Lois Lane in Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman. Her musical-theater credits include playing Sally Bowles in a national tour of Cabaret and a more recent performance as Morticia Addams in The Addams Family.

In announcing the role, Hatcher described Miranda as commanding, funny and fiercely ambitious. Rather than simply recreating the icy authority familiar from the screen, the stage part offers her a chance to deliver the character’s sharp dialogue live to a different audience each night.

A long-running West End production

The musical opened in London in December 2024 after an earlier run at Theatre Royal Plymouth. It is based on Lauren Weisberger’s 2003 novel and the 2006 movie about aspiring journalist Andy Sachs, who enters the demanding world of a high-fashion magazine.

Elton John wrote the music, with lyrics by Shaina Taub and Mark Sonnenblick and a book by Kate Wetherhead. Jerry Mitchell directs and choreographs the production, while Gregg Barnes designed the costumes that shape its glossy fashion world.

Hatcher’s arrival also creates a playful handoff between two former Desperate Housewives stars. Williams originated Miranda in the West End production; Hatcher now inherits the role as the show approaches another season at the Dominion. The production is currently booking beyond her limited engagement, through September 2027.
