Tom Cruise brought his famous ‘Risky Business’ moves to Jennifer Hudson’s Spirit Tunnel while promoting his new film, ‘Digger.’
Tom Cruise turned a routine talk-show entrance into a full-scale movie callback, bringing his famous Risky Business energy to The Jennifer Hudson Show’s Spirit Tunnel.
In footage released ahead of his Wednesday appearance, Cruise stepped into a hallway filled with staff members wearing dark sunglasses and singing a personalized version of Bob Seger’s “Old Time Rock & Roll.” The choice pointed directly to the 1983 scene that helped establish Cruise as a young star: his character slides into view, lip-syncing and dancing to the song in an otherwise empty house.
A familiar move, rebuilt for a viral format
Cruise did not simply walk through the tunnel. He put on his own sunglasses, danced with the staff and invited several people into the moment. The result blended an instantly recognizable piece of film history with the show’s most shareable recurring segment.
The Spirit Tunnel typically welcomes guests with an original chant performed by the program’s employees. This time, the unusually crowded hallway made the scale of the reception part of the spectacle. The clip also showed why the format works: it gives celebrities a playful setting while letting viewers see how willingly they embrace the joke.
The appearance also supports Digger
The talk-show stop arrives during Cruise’s promotional run for Digger, the new film directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu. In the movie, Cruise plays Texas oil executive Digger Rockwell, a role built around a significant physical transformation, including prosthetics, altered hair and a Southern accent.
That makes the Spirit Tunnel clip a strategic piece of promotion as well as a nostalgic celebrity moment. Instead of leading with the film’s heavier satirical premise, the segment reconnects Cruise with one of his most enduring screen images and puts his willingness to perform at the center of the campaign.
For Hudson’s show, landing Cruise also marks a high-profile booking. For Cruise, the clip turns a few seconds in a hallway into a reminder that a movie moment from more than four decades ago can still be instantly understood—and easily remixed for today’s social feeds.
