Bose’s new $99 USB-C wired earbuds add active noise cancellation without Bluetooth pairing, charging or an internal battery.

Bose is returning to wired earbuds after more than a decade, but the company is not simply reviving an old headphone design. Its new $99 Noise Cancelling Wired Earbuds combine a USB-C connection with active noise cancellation and require neither Bluetooth pairing nor a rechargeable battery.

Wired listening gets modern features

The earbuds plug directly into compatible phones, tablets and computers. They draw power from the connected device, allowing the noise-cancellation system to work without a battery inside the earbuds. Bose says the USB Audio Class 2 connection accepts source audio at different sample and bit rates, with playback fixed at 24-bit/48kHz.

Four microphones—two in each earbud—support the company’s QuietControl system. Listeners can choose Quiet Mode to reduce surrounding sound, Aware Mode to let more of the environment through, or switch active noise cancellation off. An inline remote handles volume, playback and calls, with a separate microphone designed to capture the user’s voice.

The 4.2-foot cable ends in USB-C rather than a traditional 3.5mm headphone plug. That choice targets modern devices that have dropped the analog jack, while the direct connection should also reduce the latency that can affect wireless listening during video, gaming and content creation.

Price, colors and release timing

Bose has priced the earbuds at $99 and opened preorders through its website and Best Buy. The company’s press announcement lists October 15 as the start of shipping. The initial color lineup includes Black, White Smoke and a limited-edition Dewdrop Mint finish.

The package includes a zippered carrying case, three sizes of silicone eartips and two sizes of stability wings. An IPX4 water-resistance rating means the earbuds are designed to withstand sweat and splashes, though not submersion.

The launch arrives as wired listening has regained visibility among users who want to avoid charging routines, connection menus and audio delay. Bose’s approach keeps those practical advantages while adding a feature usually associated with premium wireless models. The result is a niche product with a clear pitch: plug in once, keep listening, and still have control over how much of the outside world comes through.
