Miles Teller will receive the Newport Beach Film Festival’s Artist of Distinction Award at its annual Honors ceremony on October 18.
Miles Teller will receive the Artist of Distinction Award at the 2026 Newport Beach Film Festival, adding a career-focused honor to a year that keeps the actor moving between major productions and character-driven films. The presentation is scheduled for the festival’s annual Honors ceremony on October 18.
A festival honor built around range
Festival chief executive and executive director Gregg Schwenk pointed to Teller’s ability to move between blockbusters and independent projects. That description fits a résumé that stretches from the demanding young drummer of Whiplash to the crowd-pleasing return of Top Gun: Maverick, with television work such as The Offer in between.
Teller joins a broader group of 2026 honorees that includes KJ Apa, Sosie Bacon, Gemma Chan, Jonás Cuarón, Sarah Finn, Mckenna Grace, Justin Hartley, Taraji P. Henson and Jack O’Connell. The recognition will be presented during a festival that runs October 15 through October 22 and is marking its 27th year in Southern California.
His next chapter is already taking shape
The award arrives as Teller prepares for another stretch of high-profile work. He is set to appear with Adam Driver and Scarlett Johansson in James Gray’s thriller Paper Tiger. The project follows two brothers who become entangled in a dangerous scheme, putting Teller in a cast built around actors known for balancing commercial scale with intense dramatic roles.
His recent credits also include the A24 romance Eternity and Apple TV’s The Gorge. He is currently in production on the crime thriller Copperhead, continuing a run that has kept him visible across theatrical and streaming releases.
The Newport Beach tribute is less about a single performance than the arc connecting them. Teller’s career has moved from coming-of-age dramas and awards attention to franchise filmmaking without abandoning smaller, actor-led projects. That combination is precisely what the festival plans to celebrate when he takes the stage on October 18.
