Francis Galluppi is reportedly writing a new John Constantine film for DC Studios, though casting, continuity and timing remain unconfirmed.
DC Studios is developing a new film centered on occult detective John Constantine, with filmmaker Francis Galluppi reportedly tapped to write the screenplay. Deadline first reported the project, while noting that representatives for DC declined to comment and that the film remains at a very early stage.
An early project without a confirmed cast
No director, star or release date has been announced for the reported movie. Deadline said it was not aware of any attachments beyond Galluppi’s writing role. That means the project should not yet be treated as a fully greenlit production, and its place within DC Studios’ broader screen universe remains unclear.
Galluppi drew attention with his crime thriller The Last Stop in Yuma County and is also working on Evil Dead Wrath, which Warner Bros. has scheduled for April 7, 2028. His background in tense genre filmmaking makes the Constantine assignment notable, but the available reporting offers no plot details or production timetable.
How it relates to earlier Constantine versions
John Constantine debuted in The Saga of the Swamp Thing in 1985. Created by Alan Moore, Steve Bissette and John Totleben, the British character became known as a cynical investigator who navigates magic, demons and dangerous bargains.
Keanu Reeves played a Los Angeles-based version of Constantine in Warner Bros.’ 2005 film. A sequel involving Reeves and director Francis Lawrence has been discussed separately for years. Coverage from ScreenRant emphasized that Galluppi’s reported project raises questions about whether both movies could move forward, but no official answer has been provided.
Matt Ryan also portrayed the character in an NBC series before continuing the role in the Arrowverse. Other live-action plans, including a project connected to J.J. Abrams’ proposed Justice League Dark slate, did not reach production.
For now, the significant development is limited but clear: a new Constantine screenplay is reportedly in progress under Galluppi. Casting, continuity and the status of the Reeves sequel remain unresolved, and DC Studios has not publicly confirmed the report.
