Bill Hader has confirmed a guest role on “Abbott Elementary” Season 6, though ABC has not revealed his character, episode or airdate.

Bill Hader is heading back to network comedy for a guest appearance on Abbott Elementary. The actor confirmed that he has filmed a role for the ABC sitcom’s sixth season, adding another major comedy name to the show’s Philadelphia classrooms.

Hader shared the news during a November 2 appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!. He said he was excited about the guest spot, but stopped short of identifying his character, the episode or the airdate. Those details remain under wraps.

A reunion beyond the recording booth

The casting creates another connection between Hader and Abbott Elementary creator and star Quinta Brunson. Both are part of the voice cast for the animated film The Cat in the Hat, with Hader playing the title character and Brunson voicing a new character named Sherri.

Hader joked with Kimmel about the sitcom’s affection for Philadelphia talent, claiming he had to pretend to be from the city and offer support for the Phillies. The exchange did not reveal whether his role will be tied to Abbott’s staff, its students’ families or the larger school district.

That uncertainty should make the eventual episode especially fun for viewers. Abbott Elementary has built many of its guest roles around characters who can disrupt the school’s familiar rhythm without overwhelming the ensemble. Hader’s ability to move between restrained awkwardness and sudden comic intensity gives the writers several possible directions.

From sketch comedy to an Emmy-winning dark comedy

Hader spent eight seasons on Saturday Night Live from 2005 to 2013, creating characters that became staples of the show. He later co-created and starred in HBO’s Barry, winning two Emmy Awards for his performance as a hitman trying to reinvent himself as an actor.

His appearance will arrive during a season that continues to expand Abbott’s world while preserving the core cast led by Brunson, Tyler James Williams, Janelle James, Lisa Ann Walter, Chris Perfetti, Sheryl Lee Ralph and William Stanford Davis.

New episodes of Abbott Elementary air Wednesdays at 8:30 p.m. on ABC and stream the following day on Hulu. Until the network announces more, Hader’s character and exact episode remain the season’s newest mystery.
