Kim Kardashian describes the boundaries and family ties shaping how she co-parents four children with former husband Kanye West.
Kim Kardashian says co-parenting with Kanye West requires firm boundaries, careful communication and a continuing effort to protect their four children from adult conflict. Her comments appear in excerpts from the new book Citizen Kim: The Woman Who Created the Future reported by E! News and Just Jared.
Keeping the children outside the conflict
Kardashian said she still worries about West because he is the father of North, Saint, Chicago and Psalm. At the same time, she described the emotional weight of maintaining that concern when the former couple does not always get along.
Her approach, she explained, is to keep negative history away from the children and preserve their relationship with their father. Kardashian said her therapist has encouraged stronger boundaries, while the parents have recently managed to avoid much direct conflict. She attributed part of that relative calm to limited communication.
The reality star also described an open-door policy for West’s relatives, saying they are welcome to visit and spend time with the children. She added that the former couple can greet each other warmly when they meet and that she remains close to members of his family.
A familiar topic with new detail
Kardashian has discussed the strain of co-parenting before, including the challenge of shielding the children from public controversy. The new excerpts add detail about how she balances that instinct with the boundaries she says are necessary for her own well-being.
She also reflected on West’s mental-health episodes, saying the children were not exposed to them and could sometimes have a calming effect. Because those comments concern another person’s health, they remain Kardashian’s account rather than an independent medical assessment.
Kardashian and West finalized their divorce in 2022. Their children are now 13, 10, 8 and 7, according to the reports. Her latest remarks frame co-parenting less as a settled arrangement than as an ongoing choice: keep the children’s connection to both sides of the family intact while limiting the disputes that reach them.
