Lupin Part 4 returns with Assane Diop framed by a copycat thief, bigger heists and Omar Sy taking an expanded creative role behind the scenes.
Lupin has returned to Netflix with a fourth chapter that reverses its familiar game: master thief Assane Diop is no longer controlling every move, and someone else is using the Lupin name to place him at the center of an impossible case.
The new season begins four years after the end of Part 3. Assane, played by Omar Sy, is serving the final days of a prison sentence and preparing to reunite with his family. Those plans collapse when Paris is hit by warnings of coming heists signed with the name “Lupin,” followed by crimes that appear designed to implicate him.
A copycat changes the chase
The setup gives the series a sharp new source of tension. Assane built his reputation by turning disguise, planning and public assumptions into tools. Part 4 places him on the opposite side of that strategy, facing an adversary who understands the power of his legend and can make investigators doubt even the limits of a maximum-security prison.
The opening also returns the show to the elaborate heists and physical set pieces that powered its earliest episodes. The first chapter offers twin robberies, a concealed rival and a race to understand who is borrowing Assane’s methods. At the same time, the story keeps its emotional stakes close to his desire to leave crime behind and rebuild his relationship with his son.
Omar Sy remains the center
Sy’s performance continues to anchor the series, balancing Assane’s confidence with the vulnerability of a man losing control of his own story. This season also expands his creative role: Sy serves as a co-showrunner as the production leans further into the character’s larger-than-life, almost superhero-like appeal.
Part 4 arrives after a gap of more than three years, which may make a refresher useful for viewers trying to remember every alliance and betrayal. The central premise, however, is immediate enough to work on its own: a famous thief who once made himself invisible must now prove that his identity has been stolen.
The season premiered October 23. Its bigger scale and reversal of the usual cat-and-mouse dynamic give Lupin a clear route forward without abandoning the charm, deception and family conflict that made Assane Diop an international streaming favorite.
