The limited U.S. rollout adds themed, feedback-driven suggestions to Netflix’s TV interface without turning the experience into a chatbot.

Netflix is testing AI Discover on supported U.S. TVs, offering theme-based recommendations that adapt to viewers’ feedback in real time.

Netflix is putting an explicitly AI-branded recommendation tool on television screens. The streamer has started testing AI Discover, a new section designed to help viewers choose a show or movie through themes rather than a traditional genre menu.

The experiment is initially available to a limited group of U.S. members who use Netflix in English on supported TVs. Eligible users will see a Discover tab in the top navigation area. Netflix says access will expand gradually, making this a controlled rollout rather than an immediate global launch.

AI Discover starts with moods and viewing occasions

The first version offers prompts such as “Something Light,” “Scare Me,” “Family Movie Night” and “Quick Watches.” After a viewer selects a theme, Netflix generates recommendations using viewing preferences, activity on the platform and feedback supplied inside the new experience.

TheWrap reports that individual titles include a “Tune Your Recommendations” control, allowing members to keep a suggestion in the lineup or tell the system not to recommend it again. Users can also request something different when the first group of choices misses the mark.

This is not presented as a chatbot. Instead, it is a more interactive layer on top of the personalization systems Netflix has used for years. The company describes AI Discover as a test environment where features can be refined, retained or discarded based on how members respond. Kids’ profiles are excluded from the initial experiment.

Netflix makes the AI label visible to viewers

The notable change is not simply that machine learning influences recommendations; that has long been part of streaming. AI Discover brings the label directly into the interface and invites viewers to shape results in real time.

For Netflix, the feature addresses a familiar problem: a large catalog is useful only when subscribers can quickly find something they want to watch. For viewers, the test could make browsing feel more conversational without requiring them to type a detailed request.

The limited rollout also leaves important questions unanswered, including how consistently the themes improve discovery and whether people prefer them to standard rows and search. Netflix is treating those answers as part of the experiment. Members outside the supported U.S. test group may not see the tab until the company decides which elements deserve a wider release.
