Nothing says its first AI-native device will ship in December without a screen, while keeping the hardware’s design and purpose under wraps.

Nothing plans to ship its first “AI-native” product in December, and the mystery device will not have a new screen. Chief executive Carl Pei revealed the broad outline in a social post but withheld the product’s name, design and precise purpose.

Pei described the upcoming hardware as a tool shaped by Nothing’s personality and product design, adding that it could not simply have been an app. That distinction places the device in the growing category of dedicated artificial-intelligence hardware, although the company has not said whether it will be wearable, handheld or designed to remain in one place.

Nothing is keeping the hardware deliberately vague

The teaser image shows the Nothing name above part of a dark, rounded object, offering little help in identifying the product. Pei’s longer explanation focused instead on the limits of today’s AI assistants, particularly the gap between the personal context users accumulate during daily life and the information that reaches an AI model.

He pointed to moments when a useful idea or comment disappears before someone can record it. That example has prompted speculation that the product could capture or organize spoken context, but Nothing has not confirmed a recorder, smart glasses, a pin or any other specific form factor. Those possibilities remain guesses until the company provides more detail.

A cautious entry into dedicated AI hardware

Nothing is entering a difficult market. Earlier screen-free AI gadgets have struggled to prove that separate hardware offers enough value beyond a smartphone, while major companies continue to explore new devices intended to make AI more ambient and accessible.

Pei argued that the industry’s search for an “iPhone moment” for AI may be the wrong goal. His comments suggest Nothing wants to position its product as a practical tool rather than another attempt to replace the phone overnight.

The December shipping target means the company has only weeks to explain what the device actually does, how much it costs and where it will be available. Until then, the clearest confirmed details are also the most unusual: it is physical hardware, it has no new display, and Nothing believes its central function requires more than software on an existing device.
