Shawn Levy and 21 Laps Entertainment will move their television deal to Disney’s 20th Television beginning in October 2027.
Shawn Levy and his production company, 21 Laps Entertainment, are taking their television business to Disney. The filmmaker has signed a multiyear overall deal with 20th Television that will begin in October 2027, ending a long overall-deal run at Netflix.
What the Disney agreement covers
Under the deal, Levy and 21 Laps will develop and produce series across Disney Entertainment’s portfolio of platforms and brands. The move is focused on television, while Levy’s existing film work with Disney already includes Deadpool & Wolverine and upcoming projects tied to Lucasfilm and Marvel.
The agreement also marks a return to familiar ground. Before becoming a major film director and producer, Levy worked on Disney Channel television, including The Famous Jett Jackson. In a statement carried by the trade press, he described Disney as a creative home and pointed to his history with company leaders Dana Walden and Debra OConnell.
Walden, Disney’s president and chief creative officer, praised Levy’s ability to move between genres and franchises while building stories with broad audience appeal. His arrival continues a run of talent deals for 20th Television, which has also brought in creators and producers from rival studios.
What remains at Netflix
The switch does not sever every Netflix connection. Levy said he expects to continue collaborating on the Stranger Things universe, the franchise that helped define 21 Laps’ years at the streamer. The company executive produced all five seasons of the flagship series, and its Netflix credits also include All the Light We Cannot See and The Perfect Couple.
Levy’s broader Disney slate gives the deal extra weight. He is directing the Ryan Gosling-led Star Wars: Starfighter and is also attached to reunite with Gosling for Marvel’s Ghost Rider. Moving 21 Laps’ future television development to 20th Television creates a closer corporate home for those relationships while preserving selected work elsewhere.
No first series under the new agreement has been announced. With the deal not scheduled to start until October 2027, the immediate news is strategic: one of Netflix’s most visible producing partners has chosen Disney for the next phase of its television pipeline.
