Rob Antonson left Survivor 51 after a medical check on a foot injury, ending an unusual two-episode effort to remove himself from the game.
Survivor 51 lost Rob Antonson during its October 7 episode after the Rhode Island contestant raised concerns about a foot injury and chose to leave the competition. His departure followed an unusual attempt at the previous Tribal Council to engineer his own exit without simply quitting.
A failed vote led to a medical decision
Antonson had believed the Savu tribe was targeting Eric Macksoud. Hoping to protect Eric, he tried to write down his own name, but contestants are not allowed to vote for themselves. He ultimately cast his ballot for Eric while the rest of the group moved in a different direction.
Back at camp, Antonson said a small wound from stepping into the ocean was causing pain in his leg and could be infected. Host Jeff Probst arrived with a member of the show’s medical team to examine him. The assessment did not find a significant infection at that point, though the possibility of one developing could not be completely dismissed. Antonson then told his tribemates that he did not feel right continuing and exited the game.
Episode 3 became a night of sudden change
The departure altered an episode already designed to disrupt the tribes. Players were sent to the opposing camp and given a choice that echoed an older Survivor twist, forcing new calculations before the next immunity challenge and vote.
Antonson’s exit also stood apart from a standard elimination. No majority sent him home, and the medical check did not formally remove him from the game. Instead, he made the final decision after discussing the injury with the team and his fellow players.
That distinction matters in a format where a vote, a medical evacuation and a voluntary departure carry very different meanings. For the remaining castaways, however, the practical result was immediate: one fewer player, shifting numbers and a game that changed before the next torch was snuffed.
