‘The Odyssey’ Becomes Universal’s Biggest Movie Ever

Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey has reached the summit of Universal Pictures’ box-office history. The Matt Damon-led epic is expected to finish the weekend with about $1.684 billion worldwide, moving past Jurassic World as the studio’s highest-grossing release.

The milestone arrives less than two months into the film’s theatrical run. Its projected total consists of $601.2 million from the domestic market and $1.083 billion internationally, showing that the movie’s record is built on unusually broad global demand rather than one dominant territory.

The Odyssey passes a decade-old Universal record

Jurassic World had held Universal’s worldwide crown since 2015 with roughly $1.677 billion. The new estimate puts The Odyssey about $7 million ahead by Sunday, a narrow margin in blockbuster terms but enough to reorder the 114-year-old studio’s all-time chart.

The result also places Nolan’s adaptation among the dozen highest-grossing movies ever, according to the weekend projections. Deadline further ranks it as the third-biggest non-franchise film, an important distinction for a release based on Homer’s ancient epic rather than a modern cinematic series.

A theatrical voyage with awards season ahead

The record adds another chapter to a release that turned a classical story into a major contemporary movie event. Damon leads the film as Odysseus, and the scale of the international total suggests that audiences did not need an existing screen franchise to recognize the appeal of the journey.
