Porsha Williams says doctors found 21 uterine fibroids, leading to an emergency partial hysterectomy and a difficult fertility reckoning.

Porsha Williams has disclosed that she underwent an emergency partial hysterectomy in May after doctors found 21 uterine fibroids. The reality television star shared the diagnosis and surgery publicly in an interview with Gayle King and a first-person essay about her health.

Williams said the largest fibroid was comparable in size to a cantaloupe. Although she had experienced longer periods, migraines, fatigue and frequent urination, she initially connected some symptoms to perimenopause. An unplanned ultrasound during a friend’s fertility appointment revealed that the fibroids had returned.

A diagnosis that moved quickly

The 45-year-old was sent for an MRI and then to a specialist. She said the scale of the condition left surgery as the necessary option, with the procedure scheduled within roughly two weeks. A partial hysterectomy removed her uterus while preserving her ovaries.

Williams had dealt with fibroids since her late 20s and previously underwent treatments intended to preserve fertility. She has also spoken about a miscarriage before the 2019 birth of her daughter, Pilar. Learning that she could no longer carry another child brought a new period of grief, even though she had believed she was probably finished having children.

Why she decided to speak publicly

In her Glamour essay, Williams described the stigma she felt around hysterectomy and the fear that losing her uterus might alter how she saw herself. She also said her quality of life improved after surgery and that she began to understand how much strain the fibroids had placed on her body.

During the CBS interview, Williams emphasized the importance of seeking medical evaluation instead of assuming common symptoms have a harmless explanation. Her account is personal rather than general medical advice, but it gives her audience a detailed example of how a familiar health issue can become urgent.

Williams is known for The Real Housewives of Atlanta and has also appeared on The Traitors and Real Housewives Ultimate Girls Trip. By placing the surgery within her broader fertility story, she is using that public platform to encourage more open conversations about fibroids, reproductive health and recovery.
