RAYE, Florence + The Machine, Olivia Dean and JADE are among 10 live performers set for the 2026 Mercury Prize in Newcastle.
The 2026 Mercury Prize ceremony will turn most of its album shortlist into a live showcase, with RAYE, Florence + The Machine, Olivia Dean, JADE and Suede among the performers confirmed for Newcastle’s Utilita Arena on October 22.
Ten performances are planned from artists connected to the 12 nominated albums. Dove Ellis, Knats, Kojey Radical and Nia Archives will also take the stage, while Pulp will perform on behalf of War Child Records’ charity compilation HELP(2). The band contributed “Begging for Change” to that project.
Ten live sets from a 12-album shortlist
Dave and Paul McCartney are the two shortlisted artists not scheduled to perform live. Instead, the ceremony will screen short films celebrating their nominated releases. That structure keeps every album represented while building the night around performances rather than a conventional sequence of award presentations.
The shortlist places major names beside newer voices. It includes RAYE’s This Music May Contain Hope., Florence + The Machine’s Everybody Scream, Olivia Dean’s The Art of Loving, JADE’s That’s Showbiz Baby! and Suede’s Antidepressants. Albums by Dove Ellis, Knats, Kojey Radical, Nia Archives, Dave, McCartney and War Child Records complete the field.
Newcastle hosts for a second year
This will be the second consecutive Mercury Prize ceremony held in Newcastle after the event moved outside London for the first time in 2025. The change has given the award a broader regional footprint, supported this year by a Mercury Prize Fringe program running from October 15 through the ceremony date.
The prize recognizes one outstanding album by a British or Irish artist. An independent panel will choose the winner on the night, and BBC Music will carry coverage across its digital and radio platforms.
Last year’s winner, Sam Fender, took the award for People Watching and later donated the £25,000 prize to the Music Venue Trust. The 2026 lineup now shifts attention from the shortlist itself to the musicians presenting those records live, with the ceremony offering audiences a compact survey of the year’s nominated sounds before the winner is announced.
