Prime Video’s eight-episode Barbershop series, led by Jermaine Fowler, will premiere February 10, 2027, with all episodes at once.

Prime Video is reopening Calvin’s with a new Barbershop series, and the streamer has now set a February 10, 2027 premiere. All eight episodes are scheduled to arrive together, bringing the comedy franchise back to television with Jermaine Fowler leading a new ensemble.

A new owner steps into a familiar shop

Prime Video unveiled the first teaser during CultureCon on October 3. Fowler stars as Travis “Trav” Walker, who returns to Chicago hoping to honor his grandfather’s legacy at Calvin’s barbershop. He finds a changed shop and city, forcing him to earn his place among a new crew of barbers and longtime customers.

The cast also includes Brett Gray, Punkie Johnson, Roy Wood Jr., E.J. Bonilla, Bresha Webb, Bokeem Woodbine, Tiana Okoye and Langston Kerman. Announced guest stars include Ego Nwodim, Tituss Burgess, Ziwe, Zack Fox, Diallo Riddle, Devon Walker, Comedian CP and Belmont Cameli.

The original movie’s creative DNA remains

Marshall Todd, who co-wrote the 2002 film that launched the franchise, writes and serves as co-showrunner with Max Searle. Oz Rodriguez directs and executive produces. Fowler is also an executive producer, while the broader producing group includes teams from Hartbeat, Busy B Entertainment, Prominent Productions and State Street Pictures.

The original Barbershop starred Ice Cube as Calvin and turned its Chicago shop into a space for comedy, neighborhood debate and community life. It produced two direct sequels, the Beauty Shop spinoff and a short-lived Showtime adaptation in 2005. The Prime Video version keeps that community-centered setting but shifts the central perspective to Trav and a younger workplace ensemble.

The teaser announcement confirms the episode count, release date and core cast, giving viewers a clearer picture of how the property will be updated for streaming. Rather than recreating the original film beat for beat, the series is positioning Calvin’s as an inherited institution that its new owner must learn to navigate.
