Doctor Who: TARDIS Crew will bring a young Time Lord, three new friends and the Daleks to CBeebies in 52 animated preschool episodes.

The BBC has unveiled Doctor Who: TARDIS Crew, an animated preschool series designed to introduce the Whoniverse to its youngest viewers. The 52-episode production is scheduled to arrive on CBeebies and BBC iPlayer in late 2027 or early 2028.

A younger Doctor gets a new crew

The series follows a young version of the Doctor traveling through time and space with three companions: Hannah, Beastie and Toast-IE. Their journeys will bring strange creatures, unfamiliar worlds and at least one classic threat into the preschool format, with the Daleks confirmed among the foes they will face.

Each episode will run 11 minutes, giving the show a compact structure built for short adventures. The BBC says the stories will emphasize curiosity, courage and kindness, with friendship, teamwork and quick thinking guiding the crew through its problems. That educational focus places the familiar science-fiction ingredients inside CBeebies’ learning-through-play approach rather than simply shrinking the main drama for younger audiences.

The series expands a long-running universe

TARDIS Crew is being produced by Blue Zoo Animation Studio, with Dominic Minns serving as series director. Minns previously directed CBeebies productions including Mojo Swoptops and Supertato, experience that fits a project balancing colorful adventure with preschool storytelling.

The first-look announcement does not identify the voice cast, and the broad release window leaves the exact premiere date open. What is clear is the scale: 52 episodes gives the BBC room to establish the new Doctor, develop the three companions and revisit recognizable parts of Doctor Who without requiring families to know decades of continuity.

The concept also gives the franchise a new entry point at a moment when large entertainment brands increasingly build age-specific versions of their worlds. Here, the TARDIS remains the bridge. Its promise of anywhere and any time can support playful lessons, monster encounters and simple mysteries while preserving the sense of discovery that has defined Doctor Who for generations.
