Stephanie March will reprise Alexandra Cabot in Episode 9 of Law & Order: SVU Season 28, marking her first appearance since 2018.

Stephanie March is returning to Law & Order: Special Victims Unit as Alexandra Cabot, bringing one of the drama’s most recognizable assistant district attorneys back to NBC after an eight-year absence.

March is scheduled to appear in the ninth episode of Season 28. Details about Cabot’s new case have not been disclosed, but the casting gives the long-running series another direct connection to its early years.

Alexandra Cabot’s long SVU history

March joined the main cast in Season 2, which premiered in 2000, and remained a regular through Season 5. Cabot’s original run took a dramatic turn when the character faked her death and entered witness protection, creating a path for later guest appearances without closing her story permanently.

Variety reports that March has played Cabot in more than 100 episodes. She returned across Seasons 6, 10, 11 and 13 before making her most recent appearance in Season 19. That 2018 episode, “Sunk Cost Fallacy,” explored Cabot’s controversial work helping abuse survivors disappear from dangerous situations.

The actor also carried the character into Conviction, NBC’s short-lived 2006 legal drama set within the broader Law & Order world. That history makes Cabot more than a one-episode nostalgia choice: she is one of the franchise’s most established legal figures.

A veteran return in Season 28

March’s comeback arrives as SVU continues to draw on relationships built across nearly three decades. The series has regularly used returning characters to show how its detectives, prosecutors and former colleagues have changed, rather than treating those appearances as simple cameos.

Cabot’s profession also gives the writers room to bring a courtroom dimension to the episode. Even so, NBC has not revealed whether she will return in an official prosecutorial role, appear in connection with a specific investigation or revisit the advocacy work seen in her last episode.

For viewers, the confirmed headline is straightforward: March will again play Alexandra Cabot in Episode 9 of Season 28. The episode’s title, air date and full plot remain to be announced.
