Amanda Plummer, Christopher Chung and T’Nia Miller have joined Alfonso Cuarón’s Apple TV psychological horror series Ascension.

Alfonso Cuarón’s upcoming Apple TV psychological horror series Ascension has expanded its regular cast with Amanda Plummer, Christopher Chung and T’Nia Miller. The three performers join previously announced stars Caitríona Balfe and Bill Nighy.

Variety and Deadline reported the additions Wednesday. Neither outlet disclosed the newcomers’ character names or story details, leaving their specific places inside the ensemble under wraps. That secrecy fits a project whose premise centers on buried truths and an unsettling organization.

A documentary filmmaker enters a cult’s world

The one-hour thriller follows Rose, played by Balfe, a documentary filmmaker and recently divorced mother known for exposing other people’s secrets while struggling with unresolved questions in her own life. Her latest project examines a mysterious 20th-century cult called the Church of Ascension.

As Rose moves deeper into the group’s history and teachings, what first appears to offer refuge begins to reveal a more threatening side. Deadline reports that the series is inspired by Adam Nevill’s novel Last Days. Balfe is also an executive producer, giving the lead performer a creative role behind the camera.

A cast built for psychological horror

Plummer brings a career that includes The Fisher King, Pulp Fiction and television work ranging from Ratched to Star Trek: Picard. Chung is familiar to streaming audiences from Apple TV’s Slow Horses, while Miller’s genre credits include The Haunting of Bly Manor and The Fall of the House of Usher. Nighy’s presence adds another veteran performer to the still-forming ensemble.

The casting news clarifies the scale of the project without giving away its central mystery. It also places Ascension among Apple TV’s more explicitly horror-driven dramas, with a story that combines investigative filmmaking, family pressure and cult mythology.

No release date was included in the two reports, and the roles assigned to Plummer, Chung and Miller remain unknown. For now, the strongest signal is the ensemble itself: a mix of established character actors and performers with experience in suspense, prestige drama and supernatural storytelling.
