Mel Owens posted a brief message about staying positive after Peg Munson confirmed their breakup following nearly a year together.
Mel Owens has offered his first public message since Peg Munson confirmed the end of their relationship, choosing a short note about resilience rather than a detailed account of the breakup.
The 67-year-old former NFL player and sports lawyer posted a gym photo this week with the message, “Stay positive. Stay strong. Stay golden,” before adding that he planned to keep busy. His comments came about a week after Munson, 63, announced that she had stepped away from the relationship.
Owens keeps the details private
Owens also responded to followers who argued that he did not owe the public a full explanation. He thanked one supporter and agreed with another comment defending his right to handle the split without unsolicited advice. He also dismissed the idea that his fitness routine was a new “breakup diet,” saying the gym had long been part of his life.
The restrained response contrasts with the intensely public setting in which the couple met. Owens and Munson connected during the second season of ABC’s The Golden Bachelor. In the November 2025 finale, he gave her his final rose and a commitment ring, but the two did not become engaged.
Munson is focusing on healing
Munson said in her own video that the decision to leave was difficult and that love did not produce the outcome they had hoped for. She described her immediate priorities as healing, caring for her health and looking toward a new chapter, while wishing Owens well and expressing gratitude for their time together.
The pair had been together for nearly a year after filming the reality series. Their separation makes them the second lead couple from the franchise’s senior-focused edition to split, following Gerry Turner and Theresa Nist’s divorce after the first season.
Owens has not closed the door on Bachelor Nation. A separate social post teasing that viewers “never know” what could happen next sparked speculation about another television appearance, but no return has been announced. For now, his only clear statement is that he intends to move forward without turning the breakup into a public argument.
