A federal judge dismissed the remaining claims against Lizzo’s touring company, while the former wardrobe assistant’s lawyer weighs next steps.

A federal judge has dismissed the remaining claims in a workplace lawsuit against Lizzo’s touring company, ending the case at the trial-court level unless the former wardrobe assistant who filed it pursues a challenge. Lizzo celebrated the decision, while the plaintiff’s attorney said his side disagrees with the court’s reasoning and is considering next steps.

What the ruling decided

The lawsuit was brought by Asha Daniels, who worked on the European leg of Lizzo’s 2023 tour. Daniels alleged that she experienced sexual and racial harassment, disability discrimination and a hostile work environment. Lizzo and her representatives denied the allegations, and the singer herself had already been removed as a defendant in December 2024.

Rolling Stone reported that U.S. District Judge Fernando L. Aenlle-Rocha dismissed the claims that remained against Big Grrrl Big Touring Inc. The judge found that Daniels had not shown conduct demonstrating general hostility toward women or unequal treatment based on sex. The ruling described some alleged behavior as inappropriate and unprofessional but found that it did not meet the required legal standard.

The court also rejected the disability claim connected to injuries Daniels said she suffered while working. The ruling did not say that the alleged workplace experiences were acceptable; rather, it concluded that the evidence presented did not establish the claims under the laws invoked in the suit.

Both sides respond

Lizzo said in a social-media response that she was relieved and argued that the decision vindicated her and her company. Her legal team called the outcome a major victory. Daniels’ attorney, Ron Zambrano, said the court had evaluated incidents too narrowly and that disputed evidence should have been considered by a jury.

NME separately reported that Daniels’ side is weighing possible next steps. That qualification matters: dismissal is a decisive result in the current proceeding, but the plaintiff may still seek further review through the legal process.

The decision does not resolve a separate case filed by three of Lizzo’s former dancers, whose claims concern a different set of allegations. Lizzo has denied those accusations as well. Keeping the cases distinct is essential, because the dismissal involving Daniels does not automatically determine the outcome of the dancers’ pending lawsuit.
