Prime Video has canceled Nicolas Cage’s Spider-Noir after one season, despite 11 Emmy nominations and strong review scores.
Spider-Noir will not return for a second season. Prime Video has canceled the Nicolas Cage superhero drama after its eight-episode debut, closing the book on Cage’s first regular television role.
A high-profile series ends after eight episodes
Variety and Deadline reported the cancellation on September 4. The decision arrives as the black-and-white crime series heads into Emmy weekend with 11 nominations, the largest total for any Prime Video program this year, according to Variety. The show also earned strong audience and critic scores on Rotten Tomatoes, making the cancellation a notable split between awards recognition and renewal strategy.
Cage starred as an aging private investigator in 1930s New York who is forced to confront his past as the city’s masked hero. The role expanded the actor’s connection to Spider-Man animation: he previously voiced Spider-Man Noir in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.
What the cancellation means for Sony’s Marvel plans
The series emerged from a multi-project arrangement between Amazon MGM Studios and Sony Pictures Television built around characters from Sony’s Marvel catalog. Deadline described Spider-Noir as the second series ordered under that deal but the first to reach viewers. Another planned project, Silk, was dropped before production.
The cancellation therefore carries weight beyond a single show. It leaves Amazon and Sony without a returning series from the partnership and raises questions about which corner of the character library they may try next. Deadline reported that Prime Video is considering a different series based on Sony’s universe of Marvel characters, though no replacement project has been formally detailed.
For viewers, the eight released episodes now stand as a self-contained television chapter for Cage’s version of the character. Its awards showing may still add one final distinction, but the platform’s decision means the story will not continue into a second season. The full season remains available on Prime Video.
