J. Cole cancels Sacramento show after touring crew member dies in highway crash

J. Cole canceled the Sacramento stop of his Fall-Off World Tour after a member of his touring crew died in a trucking accident while transporting equipment to the California venue.

The concert had been scheduled for Thursday, August 27, at Golden 1 Center. The venue announced the cancellation and offered condolences to the crew member’s family and loved ones.

Equipment was traveling from the Seattle show

A representative for the rapper told CBS News Sacramento that the driver had been carrying production equipment from J. Cole’s August 25 concert at Seattle’s Climate Pledge Arena. The semi-truck crashed on southbound Interstate 5 roughly 20 miles northwest of Sacramento early Thursday morning.

California Highway Patrol traffic information reviewed by E! News placed the crash at about 6 a.m. Authorities responded to the scene, where the truck had rolled over. Rolling Stone reported that the Yolo County Coroner’s Office identified the driver as 66-year-old Jarlath Parkinson of Jackson, South Carolina.

The circumstances leading to the crash remained under investigation in the reports reviewed. Officials had not announced a final cause, and early possibilities mentioned by a highway patrol representative were not presented as confirmed findings.

Ticket holders will receive refunds

Golden 1 Center said customers who purchased tickets through Ticketmaster would receive automatic refunds. Fans who bought tickets elsewhere were directed to seek refunds from their original point of purchase.

The Sacramento date was part of an international tour supporting J. Cole’s current era of releases. No replacement date was announced in the venue’s cancellation notice, and the immediate status of later tour stops was not specified in the reports available Friday.

The decision to cancel placed the focus on the loss within the touring team rather than attempting to continue the show after the fatal incident.
