Fourteen people were hospitalized during The Chainsmokers’ San Jose concert, while officials said the medical cases had no confirmed single cause.
Fourteen people were taken to local hospitals during and after The Chainsmokers’ outdoor concert in San Jose, California, on Friday, September 4. Emergency crews responded to Discovery Meadow after receiving reports that multiple attendees needed medical help.
The San Jose Fire Department said it requested an ambulance task force, two additional advanced life-support fire units and a battalion chief to handle the response. Fourteen ambulances ultimately arrived, matching the number of patients transported for further care.
Officials have not identified a single cause
The available reports do not establish that one incident or substance caused all of the medical calls. San Jose police told local media that some patients showed concerns consistent with suspected alcohol intoxication or drug-related issues, but authorities did not release individual diagnoses.
Officials also had not publicly disclosed the patients’ conditions by Sunday. Consequence reported that no arrests were announced in connection with the medical response. That limited information makes it important not to treat the varied cases as one confirmed mass exposure.
Emergency crews were called at about 8:22 p.m. and remained on site through the end of the evening, according to the account compiled by Consequence. Billboard reported that at least 10 attendees were transported during the final half-hour of the show, indicating that the response intensified late in the event.
The duo has not publicly addressed the hospitalizations
The Chainsmokers, the electronic duo of Drew Taggart and Alex Pall, performed at the downtown San Jose venue as scheduled. As of Sunday, neither the artists nor their representatives had issued a public statement about the hospitalizations in the reports reviewed.
The fire department’s account confirms the scale of the emergency response, but several questions remain unanswered, including the ages of the patients, their current conditions and whether venue procedures will be reviewed. Until officials provide more detail, the clearest verified picture is that multiple medical issues prompted a large coordinated response and 14 hospital transports—not that every patient was affected for the same reason.
