‘Before I Let Go’ Lands a Series Order at Peacock

Kennedy Ryan’s bestselling romance Before I Let Go is officially moving forward at Peacock. The NBCUniversal streaming service has ordered a drama series based on the first book in Ryan’s Skyland series, turning a project that has been in development since 2023 into a full television commitment.

The adaptation will be led by sisters Attica Locke and Tembi Locke, the co-creators of Netflix’s From Scratch, who are set to serve as showrunners. Ryan and filmmaker Malcolm D. Lee created the series and co-wrote the pilot, while Lee will direct.

A second-chance romance becomes a TV drama

The story centers on Yasmen and Josiah Wade, a divorced couple whose lives remain tightly connected. They share custody of their children and continue running a business together, even as Yasmen begins to rediscover joy after their marriage has fallen apart. Their proximity keeps old feelings alive while forcing both characters to confront the pain that separated them.

That emotional setup made the novel a standout in contemporary romance: the central question is not simply whether two people still love each other, but whether love is enough after grief and unresolved wounds have reshaped a family. The series order gives the creative team room to preserve that complexity rather than compress the relationship into a feature-length adaptation.

A substantial producing team is attached

Deadline and TheWrap report that the project’s executive producers include Ryan, Lee, Attica Locke and Tembi Locke, along with John Legend, Mike Jackson, Debra Martin Chase and Dominique Telson. Universal Television and UCP are the studios behind the series.

Lee said he became invested in the characters after reading Ryan’s Skyland books and described writing the pilot with her as a rewarding experience. The addition of the Locke sisters gives the adaptation showrunners with experience translating an intimate, emotionally layered story for television.

Peacock has not yet announced casting, a production start or a premiere date. The series order is nevertheless the project’s biggest step so far, confirming that Before I Let Go has advanced beyond development and is now headed toward the screen.
